I have a question.

Why do those charts always talk about an ounce of food?

Who eats an ounce of anything?

The listings should be in one pound and five pound increments.

For example:

Peanuts

One lb. 2,560 calories
5 lbs. 12,800 calories

M&M's

One lb. 2,272 calories
5 lbs. 11,360 calories

That would be more directly useful to everyday living, if you ask me.

You're absolutely correct.

I can understand why serving sizes
are so small on pre-packaged food
(since they don't want to scare the
consumer as to how fattening the
food really is when eaten in normal
proportions.)

However, calorie charts are designed
for the opposite purpose---to scare you
into NOT eating so much.

I'm switching to dehydrated lentil soup for snacks from now on.

I just hope they don't cause too much gastric upset....

lentils can do that, you know....that's why I've avoided them for so long.
