The trend continues: 6 times normal volume, up 10%: someone is buying big; institution or take-over? Well, it actually does not interest me too much; I know Techne is one of the best investments around; somebody else might notice this as-well; only fair.

Yes, some definite accumulation.

Do you see a product announcement or alliance potentially driving the current interest?

Surely no product announcement; they have several thousand products, if I am correct; one more or less....

Let's not speculate too much; probably just some interested fund manager; or Roche or Amersham or whoever having appetite?

MPL$ money buying?!
Heard about this stock recently as it broke through 20.
My sources tell me the stock is going higher.
Have also heard that J.G. Kinnard has a new research report.
It's quite conceivable that the company is accumulating shares in
order to make some money selling them to their clients.

Do Ur Due D.

Dr John,

Ok, I'm in. The stock showed up in one of my screens for volume and price change.

Do you have any relationship to the company other than as an investor?

Are you aware of any news which might explain the recent activity, other than the possibility of a buy-out?

Thanks, doug

Douglas,

I have no relationship with the company whatsoever; not more information than is available to anyone; I think I might understand the impact of their business on Medical research / diagnostics, but many people working in the medical field should do so. The story behind Techne is so straight-forward upbeat, that it could figure as a prime example in one of Peter Lynchs books...

Techne is a good company Shane, was selected as an "undiscovered gem" in the Jan 4th Business Week. I still like BIOI solely on valuation - TECH sells at a P/B of 5, a P/S of 5, and at a PE of 25 or so - BIOI sells at a P/B of 0.9, a P/S of 0.9, and a forward PE of 6 (assuming the analysts consensus estimates are right, which is never a good assumption).

I like to buy beat up companies with potential cheap - why I'm running with BIOI - but TECH should do just fine. I have an interview with the CEO of BIOI, and he said the sector should grow in the double digits for the next decade, so both companies should benefit.

Micheal Murphy is also bullish on biotech. Our audio interview with Murphy - and the CEO of BIOI - is at audioinvestor.com FWIW.

Joe,

Thing with BIOI is the execution doesn't seem to be there. I first looked into BIOI after running into you on a SFLX board I think over a year ago, and everyone was talking about potential for BIOI then. Disappointment has continued to rule the day. Whether it's currency translation, need of new CFO, inventory writedown, slow revenue growth, etc, BIOI has consistently found a way to disappoint. Perhaps things are starting to turn around at BIOI and I should give it another look. I had pretty much thrown in the towel. You're right, it continues to look cheap - but is there a catalyst to get it moving?

Another thing: when companies can grow through acquisition, a highly valued stock is an enabler. Competitively, this hurts BIOI and helps TECH.

I enjoy the Lone Star Growth Investor. Good luck,

Shane

with earnings coming out on 2-9-99, I would think there would be some movement by now. This stock has been hanging around at this level for some time. I would like to know what the reason is for the lack of movement. This thread has been pretty dead for about a week. I bought this stock for a long term but am starting to get concerned.
Any thoughts?
