Java 8 update 66 is the current version - Release date November 16, 2015.

This doesn't match what CCleaner is telling you that update 66 was installed on 10/22/15. To eliminate all ambiguity, I would remove Java completely and reinstall it. Note: If you use 32-bit and 64-bit browsers, you need to download both 32-bit and 64-bit Java.

Why should I uninstall older versions of Java from my system?

I got rid of all the older versions installed using Revo uninstaller. I then went to the Java link you provided and downloaded Java 8 update 66. It indicated this computer wouldn't get the full benefit of 66 I guess because it's running XP. Thanks for the help.

I was in the hospital yesterday and its a newer facility state of the art and guess what OS they run? Windows XP. I seen it on their screensavers in the ER. I bet there are LOTS of businesses that still use XP.

I thought I was going to buy a new computer with 10 installed. Just seems like for the time being there are too many gripes till more of the bugs are worked out. I'm reading about too many issues with drivers etc. I'll wait. I would think a new facility should run 7 rather than XP.

I came real close to buying one of these and my mother is very happy with two of them.

I also received an ebay gift card for Christmas, but I already have too many computers.

They're probably using a medical version of office software on XP that's very light-weight.

As for businesses using older operating systems, I can see some advantage of business computers being less like toys, so employees focus on their work.

The U-Scan check outs at the grocery stores use XP as well. They are always going down, the stores I shop at have 6 machines and its common for 1-2 being down when I go to the check out and wait in line. I asked one of the people that operate the monitoring station for the machines and they said its Windows XP. Not sure if the OS is the problem or the software. My guess its the software and not Windows XP causing the problems.

I still use XP as my main machine, 10.5 years old, and I can't remember the last time it crashed. Its a very stable OS. I have lots of programs running on the system when doing admin work on SI, (FF with lots of tabs open, Chrome for Twitter, Photoshop for Twitter pics, SeaMonkey, iTunes, Thunderbird) the only thing that will make the browser unstable is poorly designed websites, I know right a way that a web site is causing problems as FF starts to grind to a halt, slows down and sometimes locks right up. I have given up looking for celebrities and other popular topics as the sites are way too unstable for my machine. Don't know if its FF or the website. Most likely the website.

XP is so stable, I agree with you that it's probably the software and not the OS.

A good friend of mine writes custom software and usually he's the only person assigned to create an application for a customer, so with that kind of software a lot depends on the talents of the lead or perhaps only programmer.
