I'm not a techie, so new bells and whistles mean less to me than an easy transition and shorter learning curve. I want something similar enough to what I'm currently using that I can just plug it in and go. What are the major differences (mainly interface) between 10 and 11?
Thanks again for your input.. |

Win 11 has not gained traction as quickly as Microsoft had hoped yet and most people are sticking with 10 for now. It still has more than twice the market share of Win 11.
I'm a Mac user, but I do the same thing with macOS, I usually stay one major release version behind until the OS is more "fully baked" and most of the kinks have been worked out. |

I'm on the verge of replacing my 13 year old Toshiba. It's done everything I bot it to do. Lately, it stopped finding my router for internet connection. I've tried a few suggestions, but it just stopped a few days ago and won't go near a connection again. Like you, I don't need it for all the previous stuff anymore, it's really a kitchen table convenience along with morning coffee and cookies, reading email and headline news. Checking on the market open, etc. |

To: Ken Adams who wrote (110284) | 7/26/2024 1:36:06 PM | From: miraje | | | I bought the refurbed 17" Acer laptop I'm typing this on, quite a few years ago, and it's held up well until recently when the keyboard started getting wonky. I just ordered a 17" refurbed HP running Win 10 for $300 plus tax. No point in buying a new one for the light use I'll be giving it.
I've got a closet full of my old computers, dating back to an ancient desktop running Windows 98SE. Think it would still work if I hooked it up.. :-) |

To: miraje who wrote (110285) | 7/26/2024 2:24:25 PM | From: Ken Adams | | | Thanks for the update. After talking to a couple friends who are more knowledgeable about this stuff, I'm going to hold off on the newer laptop until I get my recently ordered new modem/router up and running with some cooperation from Cox. I'm replacing the one I've been foolishly renting from them. The friends both suggested my old Toshiba just MIGHT recognize the new modem. That would be a pleasant surprise, but a welcome one. It would also offset the cost of the modem.
I should point out that the new modem is to work with my desktop machine, which does the heavy lifting. The laptop is, as mentioned earlier, a morning convenience and not much more. |
