I've used an Arris SB8200 for several years and have been very happy with it.

You'll have to call Cox after you've set it up to give them the MAC address on it so they can add it to your account.

You also might have to clone the MAC address in your router settings to allow the Arris to work, but that varies with each router model. Try that if you can't get it to work after contacting Cox about the MAC address.

Before you do the change up read the Cox website about activating your own modem.

Thanks! That's the plan. I made note of MAC information that may be something additional in making this work. I'm sure Cox will only be minimally cooperative, since I'm killing their monthly rental.

Thank you. Good point. Hoping Cox will not try to make this difficult.

Quick question. I'm looking to buy a refurbed laptop. I can choose either Win 10 or Win 11 for an OS. Much difference? I'm a very light user with an old Win 7 laptop that's breaking down and am looking for an easy transition. Recommendations?

Get Windows 11, Windows 10 end of life soon. A bit of a leaning curve trying to find stuff. Some hardware may not be supported. Rare.

My Bluetooth headphones are not 11 compatible.

Thanks for your reply, Ron. I'm not a techie, so new bells and whistles mean less to me than an easy transition and shorter learning curve. I want something similar enough to what I'm currently using that I can just plug it in and go. What are the major differences (mainly interface) between 10 and 11?

Thanks again for your input..

Go with Win 10. Its still a leaning curve going from 7 to 10. Lots of YouTube video on this.

Stick with Win 10 for now and just make sure whatever you buy can run 11 when the time comes.

Win 11 has not gained traction as quickly as Microsoft had hoped yet and most people are sticking with 10 for now. It still has more than twice the market share of Win 11.

I'm a Mac user, but I do the same thing with macOS, I usually stay one major release version behind until the OS is more "fully baked" and most of the kinks have been worked out.
