Thanks Don, I do appreciate it.

But not for me. Im running Win7 until it's crippled, I'll then move on to Linux or another system.

Good info in that article, though I take it with a grain of salt since it was written by Ed Bott, a longtime Microsoft and Windows-centric reporter and book author.

A great thing about Recall is that it can be turned off, though as the article states, it is enabled by default in the setup process unless you opt out. That means inexperienced or otherwise unaware users could have it enabled without fulling understanding the ramifications of what it does.

I' m about to order an ARRIS surfboard sb8200 to replace one I rent from Cox Cable. It claims to be compatible with Cox. Is there anything I need to be concerned about making this all work after I install it myself?

I've had at least 2 Arris products in the past, always rented from the cable people. Never a problem so I have no hesitation in buying my own. My only concern is making it work since I'm limited in these skills.

I've used an Arris SB8200 for several years and have been very happy with it.

You'll have to call Cox after you've set it up to give them the MAC address on it so they can add it to your account.

You also might have to clone the MAC address in your router settings to allow the Arris to work, but that varies with each router model. Try that if you can't get it to work after contacting Cox about the MAC address.
