Brent, I did a price comparison of the CDs which are being featured on K-tel's front page (supposedly their best deals!). Here's what I came up with. The lowest prices are bolded.
Title KTEL AMZN CDNW NTKI ------------------------------------------------------------ N Sync 15.28 12.58 12.58 13.88
Enter the Dru 16.18 12.58 12.58 12.88
These are Special Times 16.18 12.58 12.58 13.88
Club Mix 99 15.99 14.99 12.99 15.49
Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie 12.59 12.58 12.58 12.88
Greatest Sports Rock and James V.3 14.99 14.99 16.49 15.49
Average 15.20 13.38 13.30 14.08
Who is going to buy from KTEL?
Regards,
Tom |

Tom, internet sales are questionable as it is. But, one thing is for certain, price competitiveness is the key. And, as you pointed out, KTEL ain't got that either!
Who would buy a CD from KTEL?, who would loan money to KTEL?, who would go long in KTEL now?
Junk, junk, junk, we're headed back to $4 a share (which is probably overpriced) lol.
see you there!

Brentsky,
Maybe you're right about going back to the single digits. The question is, who's going to last longer, Crown Books or Amazon? Is cutting prices really the only solution? If life was that simple, hamburgers would be eating people. It'd be a mistake to give up the due diligence you've done on KTEL. Maybe sideline this one but technically, management hasn't even started to fight.

William, on the internet, price IS everything. Remember, we're talking about companies selling the exact same thing. Why would I want to pay more for the same CD from KTEL, when Amazon.com is cheaper and better known.
Furthermore, which management are you talking about. The old president who left KTEL secretly and with no announcement from KTEL. Sounds more like management is in complete disaray to me.

Brentsky,
Yeah, but once you enter your password and pin to get onto the Playboy site, you don't really feel like doing a lot of comparison shopping. Circuit City used to design their parking lots to hard to get into so once people parked, they didn't feel like leaving without buying. Shrewd.

Update on price comparison. Kmart offers a single price of $13.99 for all titles on the chart (post # 2657). Kmart beats out Ktel handily on price. |
