In English-language statement, PM confirms reports he demanded Biden administration remove barriers to flow of munitions, argues it will help bring end to war

Following reports that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken promised Benjamin Netanyahu that Washington would remove all restrictions on weapons transfers to Israel in the coming days, the prime minister went on the record Tuesday to assert that the top American diplomat had given him assurances to that effect.
“When Secretary Blinken was recently here in Israel, we had a candid conversation. I said I deeply appreciated the support the US has given Israel from the beginning of the war,” Netanyahu said in an English-language video.
“But I also said something else, I said it’s inconceivable that in the past few months, the administration has been withholding weapons and ammunitions to Israel,” he added. “Israel, America’s closest ally, fighting for its life, fighting against Iran and our other common enemies.”
“Secretary Blinken assured me that the administration is working day and night to remove these bottlenecks,” Netanyahu continued. “I certainly hope that’s the case. It should be the case. During World War II, Churchill told the US – give us the tools, we’ll do the job. And I say, give us the tools and we’ll finish the job much faster.”
Blinken was asked to confirm Netanyahu’s account of their meeting during a press conference in Washington later Tuesday. The top US diplomat indicated that the Israeli premier was exaggerating the step taken by the US, insisting that only one shipment has been withheld.
“We are continuing to review one shipment that President [Joe] Biden has talked about with regard to 2000-pound bombs because of our concerns about their use in a densely populated area like Rafah. That remains under review,” Blinken said.

WASHINGTON (TND) — The 2024 presidential election has the least-liked majority party candidates in decades.
A recent survey from the Pew Research Center found that 25% of Americans have unfavorable views of President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. It's the highest share since at least 1988. Just three percent of Americans have favorable views of both Biden and Trump. The survey was conducted before Trump's conviction in the New York hush-money case.
Back in 2020, 13% of Americans had unfavorable views of both Biden and Trump; the number has nearly doubled in four years.
During this same time in the 2016 presidential election, 20% of Americans had unfavorable views of Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
In 1988, just 5% of Americans had an unfavorable view of the Democratic presidential candidate, Michael Dukakis, and then former Republican presidential candidate, George H.W. Bush.

FiveThirtyEight shows Trump is 0.9% ahead of Biden in the national polls. Trump has 41%, Biden has 40.1%, and third-party candidate, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has 9.2%. Pew also found Trump has a higher favorability than Biden. The data shows that 39% of Americans view Trump favorably. Meanwhile, 37% of Americans view Biden favorably.
The current favorability ratings are low and have been since 2016.
In every election from 1988-2012, at least one candidate had a favorable rating of at least 50% at around this time in the election cycle, according to Pew.
The partisan divide has grown over the years.
Currently, 8% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning Independents have a favorable view of Trump. The numbers are even lower for Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents, just 6% of this group have a favorable view of Biden.

Meanwhile, in 2008, 27% of Democrats had a favorable view of then-Republican presidential candidate, John McCain. The numbers were identical for then-Democratic presidential candidate, Barack Obama, with 27% of Republicans having a favorable view of him. |

Jerusalem (AFP) – Israel's top army spokesman said Wednesday that Hamas cannot be defeated as an ideology, prompting the government to quickly re-assert that it remains committed to the Palestinian militant group's destruction.

More than eight months of war, sparked by Hamas's unprecedented October 7 attack on Israel, have failed to oust the Islamist militants from the Palestinian territory but have brought widespread devastation.
"Hamas is an ideology, we cannot eliminate an ideology," Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari told Israel's Channel 13 broadcaster.
"To say that we are going to make Hamas disappear is to throw sand in people's eyes. If we don't provide an alternative, in the end, we will have Hamas."
His comments were quickly rebuffed by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose cabinet has stated its Gaza offensive will not end until Hamas is defeated.
