Spin-off will add $22 billion to the existing AFS float of $6-7 billion. With F sometimes considered a value driven stock and AFS earnings driven, there is that slim chance the F(value) investor will sell AFS after distribution, causing short-term downward pressure. If this happens, it will represent an enormous buying opportunity. So cowboyfan, my opinion is to keep your eyes pealed for possible short-term bargains- as they are few and far between with this issue.

It will probably take a few weeks for things to sort themselves out. Once the dust settles, all I can see is continued smooth sailing for an autonomous AFS.

Yes, we should see some volatility in a few weeks. I bought more last friday at 76 3/4 - still an excellent long term hold plus earnings coming out in a couple of weeks.

Got burned on April 85's. Guess I should have followed my own research which I posted @ SI board #34! Currently holding a few May 80's and now wondering why I didn't jump on the 75's when premium dropped below 1 last wk. I believe May80's to be a good speculative move though.
Hopefully sell-off is over, and AFS can begin to move again on its own merit.

Best of luck!

JB

PS: Any thoughts on announced AFS LEAPS offering? biz.yahoo.com

Yea, I know what you mean. I got burned badly too. I bought when stock went to 76 a week or so ago thinking it was the bottom. I got really scared and sold last Wednesday at 71 3/4!!!Ouch!! Next day it was up 2-3 points as well as yesterday. Shoulda held on, but coulda, woulda, shoulda!!! The leaps won't affect the stock price and I am going to pick up a few. There's some really good AFS discussion on the Yahoo message board too..... I'm out of AFS right now and really want in badly. I think AFS will one day be involved in a merger or a takeover. Also, there are rumors that the stock sill split around 90 per share. Good Luck!

Since you post, which is the last post in many moons this puppy has been up, up ,up with hardly a backwards glance. It's just a tad less than 89 pre split. Hope your still not short. Unless the market craters AFS may get to 60 post split by July, IMHO!

According to Briefing.com, Friedman Billings has initiated coverage of this stock. Can anybody get their report?

Thanks
