Lol. Wasn't it Adobe who ended up with Macromedia's Dreamweaver? How fitting.
I loved DW when I had to use it in the late 90's to work on a website, but Adobe purchasing it was the end of my affair, and all the sadness that it brought. :-) |

I guess some people don't see the need for a PC, instead doing everything from a phone, but even if the interface was set up primarily for a phone I don't think it would be as good for a text heavy site as a PC with a larger screen and a real keyboard (yes you can connect a blue tooth keyboard to a phone, but then you lose some of the easy mobility of the phone. I only bring SI up on a phone if I want to show someone else something posted here. Its not just SI, but sites like Reddit, I can't imagine regularly browsing on a phone despite the fact that it has a mobile app. I could see something like Facebook (although I don't go on that on my phone, or at all as much as I used to). |

I like the design too and have also turned off the new features that make it more mobile friendly because it's still much easier to use a computer for posting purposes here.
A good redesign using responsive web coding could keep both old and new interfaces as the transition is made to the new one. I see it all the time on large sites like eBay and Facebook where they solicit user feedback about the changes when giving an option to go back to the previous design.
That kind of coding requires a lot of time and money.

Yes, but how old are you? I think you're making my #1 point for me here, and I only realized it recently when thinking about the young people I know and how extensively they use their smartphones. |

The last 24 hours list of hot threads seems to have about 1000 posts. I don't know how that compares to 10 or 20 years ago. SI doesn't seem to publish any aggregate data on the site. |

From: SI Ron (Crazy Music Man) | 9/23/2022 3:04:04 PM | | | | Does anyone here have a Microcassette Recorder they don't need? You Know the old fashion tiny ones that plays mini tapes. I have two that don't work. I have old tapes that could have my fathers voice on them. I don't trust eBay, because that's were one of these that don't work was bought. They play tapes for a few seconds, but the electronics are messed up in the recorder and starts making a horrible sound.
If you hit play with no tape, it makes a loud distorted sound like when the tape was in. I thought it was bad tapes, but its the recorder.
I don't trust eBay.
There is one on Kijiji, but they want 80 bucks and it looks like the same model I have that doesn't work. I don't want to spend a pile of money for something thats only going to be used a few hours. |
