Adobe acquires voice interface platform Sayspring
techcrunch.com
“The way we interact with our devices is at a significant inflection point,” writes Abhay Parasnis, Adobe’s executive vice president and CTO, in today’s announcement. “We’re moving beyond the keyboard and mouse and even our touch screens to using something that is even more natural — our voice — to interact with technology. Voice tech is growing fast, and we strongly believe it must become an integral part of Adobe’s portfolio moving forward. We’re excited to welcome Sayspring to Adobe, and we’re looking forward to putting the technology to work to empower more people to create next-generation voice experiences.”

Adobe announced today that it was acquiring Magento for $1.68 billion. The purchase gives Adobe a missing e-commerce platform piece that works in B2B and B2C contexts and should fit nicely in the company’s Experience Cloud.

Why Adobe's Move Into E-Commerce Is a Big Deal
fool.com
Adobe says the acquisition expands the company's addressable market by $13 billion. Additionally, the tools Magento brings to the table will better allow Adobe to compete with Salesforce, which also offers marketing, sales, and service support for businesses. Salesforce acquired Demandware in 2016 for $2 billion to gain similar functionality to that provided by Magento.

This acquisition also positions Adobe to compete with Shopify (NYSE:SHOP), particularly in the enterprise market served by Shopify Plus. Shopify provides easy-to-use templates for setting up an online store and tools to help customize the shopping experience for customers.

Until now, Magento has primarily focused on small- to medium-sized businesses, but having Coca-Cola in its stable of customers shows the breadth of its offerings. This plugs a gap in Adobe's existing offerings, and the company will now be able to offer insight from the inception of marketing to the close of the purchase.

For Adobe, this deal could be transformative.

Seems like nothing can stop this company. It seems expensive, but it's been growing into itself. Breaking its own records over and over, really impressive.
