i agree with you...MSFT top brass whine that the DOJ actions will hurt innovation...fact is, MSFT has continually squashed innovation of other companies for the past decade. The DOJ actions will only hurt MSFT innovation if MSFT chooses it to be that way. Otherwise they ought to get off their whiney asses and innovate to their hearts content. |

MSFT Break Up good for GATES/BALLMER...Why...$ of course...the breakup will allow for them to convert their shares into cash, they can not do this today, since as CEO's etc they have a fiduciary duty to not "sink" the stock as for example almost happened to Compaq when it was learned its CEO was selling out before the earnings news etc....this a how Rockefeller made his BIG money....not by holding Standard Oil Stock, but by being FORCED after the Sherman Anti-Trust Case to divest his shares...and be paid "A PRETTY PENNEY AT THAT!". A MSFT Break up will allow other companies, particularly NASDAQ stocks to "fill the vacuum" and that means they too will benefit in stock price performance as market shares convert into increased earnings over the next year or 2 or 3. (Thats' the whole life cycle of even MSFT product lineS anway, or any Tech company despite what the copyright and patent boys say...innovation replaces product LINES very very fast in the internet age)

All products have short life cycles...time to market is everything. That's why Linux plays like Corel (CORL), Inprise (INPR), VA Linux (LNUX), Red Hat (RHAT) Andover.com (ANDN now LNUX) and even SUn MicroSystems (SUNW) while down relative to the rest of the market and techs, have no where to go but up from here. They are in the best position to get New Linux software products out as the new product life cycles will be DOMINATED by Linux post-Msft, and are easy to get to the market IN TIME without delays or other "VAPORWARE" marketing ploys.

My fear is not "SILICON ISLAND TAWAIN" but High Tech Red China....lets hope none of our computer and high tech companies follow the Horizon into the setting sun, and into the lands of the rising suns, and then get swallowed up by the dragon.....including MSFT. Red China PNTR/WTO could offer a "evil" monopole a haven, lets hope Ballmer meant what he said today about MSFT being a solid "American" company that will follow the rule of law whatever the Court of Appeals says it will be. That will set an example AND ALSO SET a even playing field for all American High Techs, and this will be so even if that means a more conservative laissez Faire Anti-Centralized Government regulatory policy, like we currently have in Clinton/Reno Washington and coincidentally also have in Communist China and Cuba.

P.S. The role of government should be LIMITED to protect its citizens (individual and corporate alike) from each other and from government, rather than the cradle to grave government knows best philosophy that the fall of the iron curtain was supposed to have proved never worked, and now we see liberals thinking it might work behind the bamboo curtain....lets hope that no good companies are lured by the deception of quick profits and other short lived incentives. What do we do once the Billions have gone into Chinese Factories and then the red chinese communist party (acting as the local labor union) calls a strike for profit sharing, like 50%, 75%, 90%, 100%.....100%???....why THATS COMMUNISM....well don;t say I told you so on this one. Pray instead. |

Wow, I hope you are wrong with your Chinese prediction. By the way, I think MSFT is headed out of this country, though. I don't believe they will stay here after this unless the move proves too costly. I did not believe the interview. It looked like the arrogance issue had already been resolved, but I do not know in what country. |
