My standard won't move, it is now part of our History, but I will, I have to. I have served my fourteen days.
Any pretense of normalcy can be discarded, it is fine to do that. Many warriors have never been able to defeat Phobos or Deimos and are now stuck in their mortal coils, they cannot move. They are frozen in place on this battlefield, their rictus caused by these two. If you have been thinking that your kahuna has power in these times then you are most likely beset by doubt now, few kahunas have seen a wave of this power, the very ylem moves. Look around this place, doughty minds destroyed, whining about small pleasures they have lost while thousands die around them. They name this terrible foe "disruption" or "flu" and pretend it will just go away, their inability to function is real. They are like fighters who have lost an entire limb in the melee and try to pick it up and fix it back in place, leave them be, they are useless, YOU CANNOT HELP THEM. Not only are they useless their inability to take even the simplest action in the face of this enemy is dangerous, their uninformed prattling will kill many near them. Look to your own standards and remove the pennants of those that have fallen or failed to act for you. If your church or your nation or your business has failed to protect the things that you love, then remove that pennant from your own standard. I have no blazon to give you but your arms must be changed if you are to succeed in this fight. If you believe there is a kahuna who has seen a wave like this then please, let them stand forth.
I went to get gas yesterday. I buy my gas a full tank at a time now, I used to buy just enough to get the Airmiles but no longer, every exposure to contact matters and I am focused on not getting infected for as long as I can. Convenience store door handles and gas pump handles are both obvious hot spots. People seemed oblivious, person after person walked through the door of the convenience store or grabbed gas pump handles with no hand protection whatsoever. They came out with their ice cream bars and their energy drinks and smokes like this was just a totally normal day. In the next few weeks thousands upon thousands of Albertans will get ill and many will die. The getting ill can be avoided, the dying can be avoided. But if you simply cannot face the change and are sitting there trying to shape this battle to your comfort zone you have already lost. It really is a time when we get to decide what tomorrow will bring. This is not a disruption, it is not a flu, it is not something that has happened before. This should be obvious to all those whose faces or speech are not frozen in a rictus of terror or fear.

Sunset and evening star...
Fear not, your destiny may be with crones and crows but so be it, hold fast. Younger warriors will need to see that you are steady and serene. There is peace in war, it is found in small patches of ground where natural enmity is put aside so that greater fears can be faced together. Practice is done, the import of our roles along with those in similar holons throughout the new land cannot be emphasized enough. Look how they start to suffer now in the real, it is coming here as well. Your personal danger will depend upon your ability to deal with an invisible warrior that can only be kept at bay with the very lightest of weapons. The middle cannot hold, it will be every last one of us fighting for ourselves and fighting for each other, we must prove out, we must. The future is there, just out of our reach. Tomorrow always comes at midnight and darkness approaches
Lord Tennyson is an apt choice for this time. Do I think this catastrophe is dangerous, yes. I am not sure who everyone in (put the community you live in here) imagines those hundreds, perhaps thousands of dead people will be? When you read the statistics about contagion rates do you include yourself amongst them? I prepare, I embrace small rituals now and make sure that I do not miss an observance, lest Kali appear here in my demesne. I increase my efforts to cover those around me in meaningful ways, I try to anticipate what might make others lose their fight and find a way to offer even the smallest amount of added help. I add power to my defense and if you have watched I have barely thrown a single squalling cat at anyone, I have set aside offense for offerings made to strange new gods like nitrile and ethyl. But nitrile and ethyl have no magic, they are simply rituals and an improper ritual is no ritual at all. The ritual of washing hands at the basin must be the most important, our first defense, our first act upon returning home, soap and water.
