Software has one of the lowest entry barriers. Semiconductors for example require billion dollar investment in FABs. So how come Microsoft continues to show gangbuster quarters quarter after quarter?
Anyone has insight into this ?

This trend will continue, until PCs give in to alternatives.
Java was supposed to displace Windows, but thin clients never took off, because PC prices dropped to tantalizingly low levels of $500 and below. MSFT did not crush Java.

The next wave is information appliances, but MSFT already has a head start there with Windows-CE.

MSFT, should be a good investment for long term.
