After two months and complete silence from Aavid about your question as to why Aavid may have lost heat pipe technology based cooling products business for portable applications where Intel appears to be the customer in the Intel/Fujitsu/Sumitomo Light Metals project, I can only offer the following: Intel picks its technology sources as it pleases them and they were apparently impressed with the technology coming out of Japan. Nevertheless, I have considered for some time that "integrated heat pipe / heat spreader / with and without fan equipped condensor-heat exchangers" constitutes technology critical to Aavid's future as the industry leader. Aavid has the technical talent and financial wherewithall to bring such technology to market. Aavid probably has some time to do so to favorabley impact its markets in digital and power electronics. Historically, Aavid has not had a strong presence in portable computing which is apparently seeing a high volume potential need for this technology first. You were wise to ask the question; based upon the lack of company response and what little I know, I suspect the answer is not currently positive which is a disappointment to me, and the reality of which Aavid needs to act on.
