OT: buying a new car

I worked at a couple of car dealerships (one honest, one not) and it looks like you did your homework.

A couple of points. There is very little profit in small, less expensive cars, even selling at MSRP. It's luxury cars and loaded pickups and SUVs that have fat margins. Big dealer profits are in used vehicles, in house financing, and the parts and service departments (except warranty repairs, which dealers hate).

Buying at the end of the week or especially month can get you a better deal, as sales quotas and targets have to be met. End of model year leftovers on the lot and loss leaders on sales ads can get you really good deals. If you have a desirable trade-in, that will also give you more negotiating room.

Two mores points.. If you get negative vibes from the dealership or salesperson, don't hesitate to walk away. Also, if a dealer has ADM (adjusted or additional dealer markup) window stickers on the new cars and trucks, I'd also recommend walking away.

Aside from MSRP, You can get "invoice" pricing on the internet but the dealer's cost is less that that, with varied manufacture hold back incentives to move slow selling models..
