"And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again." (Matthew 20:17-19)
Jesus predicts 7 things will happen to him. He will be betrayed, condemned, delivered, mocked, scourged, crucified, and raised.
The first 6 is what man will do, showing what man is capable of; the 7th is what God will do, showing what God is capable of. That’s the Gospel story that saves from sin all who put their faith in Jesus.
"If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” (Romans 10:9-11) |
