Armed Uber Arrives in Los Angeles

The "Protector" App offers gun-toting security behind the wheel for riders who want their drivers packing heat

Do you want your next ride-share driver to be packing heat? The "Protector" app, which offers on-demand protection in the form of armed former law enforcement or military officers behind the wheel, is now available in Los Angeles.

The app that books armed agents is available on Apple and even allows users to pick the bodyguard's uniform for the ride. It bills itself as "a revolutionary personal security app that enhances personal protection and makes private security available to the general public in an on-demand fashion. With the click of a button, Protector users can schedule veteran and former law enforcement private security personnel to serve as personal protection when needed."

The app even allows users to pick a uniform for their drivers or hire an entire motorcade of armed guards, but it doesn't come cheap. The cost for one guard and one car with a five-hour minimum in Los Angeles is listed as $1,000 plus an annual member fee of $129. There is a cost-splitting function that is meant to “make private security accessible,” which allows users to split with up to five people.
