JP -- I believe the problem with Apple and AI is more complex than what you suggest. First of all, a processor chip must not only be fast but must incorporate neural processing units in order to perform inferences at low enough power use to enable it to be used on a smartphone or laptop. As far as I can tell, Apple has not incorporated an NPU into any of its new processor chips.

Second, a neural processing unit requires software that can run efficiently on a smartphone or laptop. I don't see anything so far that suggests Apple has developed such software. Apple would have to depend on firms like Qualcomm, which has the most advanced NPU's for low power devices, or the Chinese company that purportedly has hardware and software capable of running on low power devices. I'm a bit skeptical that the company has a complete solution or whether its recent announcement indicates only that it has hardware or software that merely adds to work already done by higher power chips such as those developed by Nvidia.

And third, given the tariffs and/or other restrictions on exporting high performance chips to China or buying finished products with high performing chips and related software coming from China, it seems to me that Apple, by virtue of NOT having invested earlier in AI, remains at a competitive DISadvantage in China or anywhere else in the world. JMHO.
