First off (obviously), Clark is the best thing to have happened to the WNBA. Sports is a form of entertainment. Heck, what drew me to attend a DC United soccer game was to see Wayne Rooney in person-- certainly not the team nor the sport!

The question at hand is whether the US women's Olympic basketball team should be the best players in the sport, or the women most people will pay to see. These are not necessarily the same thing. For example, do you add Tiger Woods to the Ryder Cup team if you think that will boost attendance? Is that fair to the players who (think they) have earned a spot?

The guy who made that video did some clearly manipulative editing of Taurasi. From a somewhat recent story about her: "...in Taurasi’s 17th season, it has only cemented her reputation as one of the funniest and boldest trash-talkers in WNBA history"... en route to setting the all-time NBA scoring record. Michael Jordan was idolized for this cockiness. To demonize Taurasi for same is hypocritical.

In sum, we can debate this topic without the need to demonize either Taurasi or Clark. Taurasi is not wrong that Clark hasn't yet proven she's the best of the best. OTOH, Clark has proven she doesn't have to be to put fannies in the seats. Personally, I think the reward of having her on the team far outweighs the risk. And if she had been selected, I truly believe Taurasi et al would have at least acknowledged her fame is at least good for the sport.
