REPLAY OF TODAY'S (APRIL 30th) LIVE LOWDOWN ON LINEAR DRIVE OPTICS. Here is the YouTube link you need lnkd.in to access the recording of today's in-depth discussion about Linear Drive Optics. The meeting starts after the 3 minute countdown. Special thanks to Optiwave Systems Inc. and Ajinomoto Co., Inc. for helping to make today’s OIM possible.

This 90-minute Optica Online Industry Meeting examines LPO technology in depth, examining its benefits, challenges, and role in the data centre optics landscape. Linear Pluggable Optics (LPO) offers a viable solution to address data centres' lower power consumption and high bandwidth demands. LPO simplifies design with a pluggable module interface, facilitating easy plugging and unplugging of transceivers. This design enhances optical interconnection flexibility, simplifies fibre cabling, and streamlines equipment maintenance, allowing for efficient system management and upgrades.

Remember that LPO was THE hot topic during OFC 2024. While offering power and cost savings, linear drive faces technical and business challenges that have limited widespread adoption. LPO technology eliminates expensive DSPs from the module, which could be bad news for some. Do you recall the response from Andy Bechtolsheim of Arista Networks when I asked him what problem we are solving with LPO? Watch the video below to find out.

We invited Andy back to update us at this meeting. He announced that 12 Industry leaders are now collaborating to define specifications for Linear Pluggable Optics. Founder members of the Multi-Source Agreement are Accelink Technologies Co., Ltd., AMD, Arista Networks, Broadcom, Cisco, Eoptolink Technology Inc., Ltd., Hisense USA, InnoLight Technology, Intel Corporation, MACOM, NVIDIA and Semtech. More details at lpo-msa.org. We also asked the following experts to join us for OIM: Son Thai Le from Nubis Communications, Tiger Ninomiya from Accelink Technologies Co., Ltd. who gave me a brilliant live demo at OFC Conference, Ron Swartzentruber from Lightelligence, Philipp-Immanuel Dietrich from Keystone, Lewis Johnson from NLM Photonics, Alexey Gubenko from Innolume GmbH, Rohin Y from Lightspeed, and the ever-controversial Mark Lutkowitz from fibeReality, LLC.

Time is short, so fasten your safety belts and hang on as we begin our deep dive into LPO technology. Let the ride into the future begin.
