|Ballroom dancing proves gateway activity to mass murder.|
Man who shot 20 in Monterey Park ballroom dance hall, killing 10, was 72 year old Chinese immigrant, Huu Can Tran who taught dance lessons there almost every night. He shot himself after police surrounded his van in Torrance.
His ex-wife, who asked not to be named, said he was an occasional truck driver until 2004 and the pair met at the same dance studio he shot up after he offered to teach her how to dance.
He wasn’t violent, she said, though he “was quick to anger.” If she took a wrong step while dancing, he would occasionally blow up saying she was embarrassing him, she claimed.
Huu Can Tran filed for a divorce from her in 2005, which became final a year later.
A “long-time acquaintance,” who also wished to remain anonymous, said Tran would make the 5-minute drive to the dance hall “almost every night.” But described how he was “hostile to a lot of people” at the dance studio and that he believed other instructors said “evil things about him.”
