|Small OLED shipments of 333.5 million units in the first half of this year… Sales KRW 20.4 billion|
It was found that shipments of small OLEDs (organic light emitting diodes) used in displays such as smartphones and smart watches increased by more than 100 million units compared to the previous year in the first half of this year.
According to the '2021 Small OLED Display Semi-Annual Report' published by UBI Research on the 17th, OLED shipments for smartphones (including foldable phones) and watches sold in the first half of 2021 were 333.5 million units.
This is a 50% increase from the shipment of 225.8 million units during the same period last year. During the same period, sales also reached $20.4 billion (about 24 trillion won), an increase of nearly $5 billion from $15.7 billion in the first half of last year.
UBI Research explained that in order to cope with the gradually expanding OLED market for mobile use, China's BOE has completed the expansion of the LTPO line at B7, and that B11 has completed the factory configuration as a line dedicated to Apple.
A UBI Research official said, "The application product that is expected to grow the most in the second half is the foldable phone. With Samsung Electronics' strong sales of the Galaxy Flip 3, the expected shipment volume of the foldable phone is expected to reach 8.9 million units in the second half of the year." OLED will grow to 50 million units,” he predicted.
