Why is 5G important? Because it enables service providers to handle more traffic without an increase in spectrum. By that I mean the speed of 5G being much greater than 4G LTE, an equivalent amount of spectrum in 5G will allow more traffic than 4G.

It's true that many users, myself included, can get along without 5G. I have a One+ 8 5G, which I used initially on T-Mobile, which has at least a slower form of 5G in many areas. Later on I switched to AT&T, where I have never encountered 5G along the east coast as well as in many places in California. 5G is faster, but I still can get along fairly well on 4G. Nevertheless, my point is that 5G becomes an advantage for service providers, and that's why you are seeing tremendous investment in providing 5G by the individual service providers.
