|Apple confirms OLED installation in iPad... Samsung and LG review small and medium-sized OLED investment|
As Apple decided to install organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) in its new iPad, which is scheduled to be released next year, domestic display companies have started to review investment in OLED for information and communication (IT).
According to the display industry on the 20th, Samsung and LG Display are in the process of deliberation on investment to produce OLED panels for IT. It is considering investment in OLED evaporators, which are essential for panel production, and fine metal mask (FMM) tensioners.
It is known that Samsung Display is in discussions with Japan's Dainippon Printing (DNP) and Hims, a tensioner supplier, over the supply of FMM required for OLED production for IT. LG Display has also started contacting KPS, which makes OLED tensioners.
The reason why Samsung and LG Display started reviewing OLED investment for IT is because Apple decided to apply OLED to some models of iPads scheduled to be released next year. Apple is said to have signed a contract with both companies to supply OLEDs for iPads in May. Samsung and LG Display will begin placing orders for equipment from the second half of this year after undergoing their own investment deliberation.
