Tamitha is surprised and somewhat concerned that sunspot cycle 25 has remained weak for so long...leaving little time to peak. Weaker cycles with North/South hemispheres out of sync have a greater tendency to produce "big events" than do stronger cycles.
(Rolf Witschze [R.I.P] has stated that the Northern solar hemisphere has shut down...3 yrs ago. We'll see.)
A weaker cycle has lower baseline flux maintaining lower relative coronal stability which allows for development of greater magnetic complexity due to the differential rotation, so magnetic disturbances such as sunspots and filaments can be more "expressive" when they destabilize.
Likely fewer, but bigger potential events.
