For the Antarctic, it's undersea volcanoes melting ice from below. Muons at work there, just as with surface volcanoes. There are thousands more undersea than on land.

The ozone loss over both poles brought on by high cosmic ray flux contributes to surface melting.

For the Arctic, this is the largest melt contributor coupled with the increase in Arctic sea ice (fresh vs salt water). There's more to melt.

The oceans' processes carry great momentum. The AMOC long-term cyclicity is a one-way train...as it has been for millennia.
Be ready for snows in Europe, Asia and the US....in July....2022.
