Do you think this is unusual? (Keeping in mind there aren't likely to be all that many more unless they die).

Old people retire; some get beaten. It happens.

Most importantly, they tend to be replaced with members of the same party, but people who are younger and can be around a while.

I wouldn't get too excited about it at this point. I don't think Dems have taken the full measure of today's loss yet. When they figure it out, they may be wanting to retire, too.
