Delta Air Lines Inc. (DAL) reported Friday an increase in July load factor, as a rise in demand outpaced an increase in seat supply. Load factor increased 140 basis points (1.4 percentage points) to 90.0%, as a 250-basis point increase in domestic load factor offset a 20-basis point reduction in international load factor. Traffic increased 5.2% to 23.77 billion revenue passenger miles, with 7.1% growth in domestic and a 2.1% rise in international. Meanwhile, capacity rose 3.5% to 26.41 billion available seat miles, with 4.2% growth in the U.S. and 2.4% growth internationally. Delta's stock, which slipped 0.5% in premarket trading, has gained 4.6% over the past three months, while the NYSE Arca Airline Index has lost 0.8% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average has tacked on 1.1%.
