| | <<Recent post remind one that we still don't know who the U.S. SPD film producer is or was. Remember how careful Joe was to explain how nothing about the second producer could be said since the call was public and Hitachi was listening.>>
My impression of this was that they had a contract coater lined up if Hitachi fell through. It would have involved a partnership of some kind, and probably a capital raise to finance part of it. Initially, it might have been more like a Gauzy kind of situation, meaning an entity already making LC, but I don't know.
Joe asserts many many things that years later have not come to fruition. RFI is the kind of place where there are always big dreamers coming in to them with big plans. Seth is the only person there with actual C-Suite experience at the B to B level and the tone has really moderated since he arrived and especially since Bob died imo.
What happened to the second OEM on accelerated development, The arilines that were going to use SPD, etc etc so many to list that never happened, how about 2001 as the first full year of profits, or the SL take rates on the S class, or the E class, or getting the price to the sweet spot or Joe saying he knew the models that were coming. Hopefully cost and awareness of cost have been the big issues. Smart glass sure seems to be gaining traction, but RFI is it's own worst PR enemy. |
