Fwiw, on last market day of the year I make these buys:

Adds to Fiat and Goodyear (FCAU, GT)

Add to seed position in (Micron) MU. I have played this one very wrong --- held for several years, gave up near lows, and then of course the old story -- stock began to rise - without me. I watch and watch. grr. Eventually now succumb and buy a few shares. Very late to the party. Forward p/e though, if analysts are near right, is very low, so maybe some good price appreciation remains.

I start a seed position in DISCA. I might be too late with this one also (watched John Malone buy at lower prices, but I did not look closer at the company's/stock's potential at the time). Issue might be the trend to skinny bundles and where does that leave Discovery. Plus DISCA has bought Scripps Network Interactive, so Discovery debt is high. Otoh -- Discovery is apparently very popular with men (after the sports channels), and HGTV from Scripps is #1 with women (or so a pundit has said). Scripps apparently is in a lot of these skinny bundles, so DISCA with its Discovery channels could fit in there additionally (maybe). Anyway...just a seed position to see what's going to happen.

I started a seed position in PGH (Prestige Brands Holdings). I like that they sell a lot of home/ healthcare/remedy products that are so well-known, e.g.
The company?s OTC healthcare products include Chloraseptic sore throat treatments and mouth pain products, Clear Eyes eye care products, Compound W wart removers, Dramamine Non-Drowsy naturals, Efferdent denture cleansers, Luden's throat drops, BC and Goody's analgesic powders, Beano for gas prevention, Debrox for ear wax removal, and Gaviscon for upset stomach remedies. Its OTC healthcare products portfolio also comprise Fess nasal saline sprays, Hydralyte for dehydration and electrolyte replacement, Monistat for vaginal treatment-anti-fungal, Nix lice/parasite treatments, DenTek for peg oral care, Summer's Eve feminine care products, Fleet laxatives, Pedia Lax pediatric laxatives, Ecotrin aspirin, Phazyme for gas relief, Tagamet acid reducers, and Uristat urinary tract infection treatments. The company also offers household cleaning products consisting of Chore Boy scrubbing Pads; Comet abrasive and non-abrasive powders, sprays, and creams; and Spic and Span brand products.
Company had loss in 2009, otherwise a profitable, maybe plodding, slow grower over time. P/e isn't attractive from my value perspective (21.8 ttm, per Morningstar), so maybe this is more a GAARP stock, if that. One thing I like is that, for me, if I look out ten or 15 years, I would bet this company will still be around selling their products, maybe not growing a lot, but enough to keep its earnings up and maybe p/e too. (Would be nice if they paid a dividend though)

Air Lease (AL - aircraft lessor, seller, fleet manager). I average up on this GAARP stock for just a few shares.

Happy New Year and best wishes to all who post here,
