GZ Don, sometime a ban is absolutely necessary to keep order much like you would want to keep order in a town hall meeting, and yes, very often it's misused...

I think only a temporary ban is justified for most disturbances. It gets the out of control poster's attention.

The removing the ban after a few days usually resolves the problem.

My point is there are a few sites I read where I would like to strongly dispute their posts but I don't because I know I will be banned. That is why the ban needs to be in moderation not to suppress alternative options

I also feel if you are moderating a very controversial subject you are asking for turmoil and bans again should be limited because you are asking for heated arguments.
