|I'm not nearly as worried about AI as I am AI directed CRISPR. When I hear people talk about the danger the singularity poses, I think they are missing it. Genetic engineering is so much more threatening to the human race.|
By delivering the Cas9 nuclease complexed with a synthetic guide RNA (gRNA) into a cell, the cell's genome can be cut at a desired location, allowing existing genes to be removed and/or new ones added.
AI will make CRISPR or other methods so much more efficient so much faster than humans can do it. In no time we'll be making babies with super intelligence. Those super intelligent babies will grow up and use even better AI to make even smarter more improved "humans"... This isn't like the Star Trek episode with genetically improved people... the logarithmic advance will happen so quickly that they will be far beyond simple enhancement and may be virtually unrecognizable as humans.
It'll be a logarithmic advance. I won't take long before they leave genetically unmanipulated people in the dust. Laws will not stop this. The ultra wealthy will simply do it in other countries or underground. The know others are doing it and they will justify it that way, their children must be competitive.
