From Needham talk:
  • ICE 4 adoption faster than ICE 3
  • ICE 5 first half 2019, 600G per wave w/ industry at 400G
  • ICE two year cadence is for ICPs/ICP products, telecom/cable would never accept such a cadence(5/6 year for that segment)
  • ICE 5 modules available Q1 18, products one year later
  • flex ILS compatible with gen 4,5,6 ICE engines
  • Charter/Time Warner combined letting Infinera bid on metro upgrades
  • Remote PHY is HUGE opportunity, brings 2X orders of magnitude increase in capacity to cable edge/metro
  • Believes TelMex comes back to historic buying, with of course, CenturyLink
  • Operating margins back in double digits 2018, long-term still mid-teens
  • DSP designs cost $40 a generation
  • Will use off the shelf DSP for ICE 5, Acacia, NEL, Inphi are leading suppliers
  • In-house DSP with SD-FEC, Nyquist sub-carriers, gainsharing is the one for telecom, subsea with 5/6 year cycle
  • XT is going to be huge, at the margin of disaggregated box, full-featured products
  • Infinera LOVES OPEN LINE SYSTEMS, nobody makes more inexpensive transponders than Infinera with their PIC
  • May some day sell modules, once they have simplified interoperability
  • Coriant is in bad shape according to Infinera and analysts, but that has been the case for a long time
  • Nokia(formerly ALU optical) in market for long haul
