I really enjoyed the Father Brown stories after an SI member introduced me to Chesterton. I found his (Chesterton's) insight into human nature to form an odd juxtaposition to his religious irrationality. Ditto for Anne Rice. I can find nothing rational in the adoption of any religious ism when all such dogmas have been so clearly man-made and so obviously represent and promote ideas and events which are demonstrably without basis in fact.

Having said that, writers such as Zelazny, Tolkien, Rice, Donaldson, at al have always fascinated me for their depiction of that struggle between dark and light, good and evil, right and wrong...which at its root is the struggle between us and them, between cooperation and opposition--between eating and being eaten! These authors reify these attributes and create battles and struggles which are larger than life.

Zelazny (a catholic in his youth) probably made use of a greater variety of mythology than most of these fantasy authors: Christian, Egyptian, Norse, Greek, Hindu, etc.

As for Trump, he can be explained by this book--as can you and I and others!
