I think Oracle/Ellison should have to repay Google's court costs...

I've followed Sun/Oracle for decades... nearly 30 years when a good friend worked at Sun and I worked at HP.

My non legal understanding: Sun wanted to (or had to) get out of hardware and into more profitable services business. They released Java as open source with the idea they were the experts and could sell services to those who needed help with it. Google didn't need their help.... Oracle bought Sun, couldn't do any better and then tried to use the legal system to extort $ from Google.
