The problem with having Left/Right wing discussions is internal to the definition of Left/Right wing discussions. People feel bound to take a position on the Left or the Right and hold to it no matter what happens, while in doing so they immediately become vulnerable to the valid criticisms of Left wing or Right wing.

Right wingers are criticised because the right wing position is generally based on a standard moral principle. When a right winger proves to be immoral in his personal or private correspondence, or when a particular right wing platform is shamelessly immoral, it can be devastating to the positions taken by the right wing. Left wingers are criticised because the left wing position is generally based on liberal thinking processes. When a left winger proves to be following an unthinking lock step dogmatic directive, or when a particular left wing position is wantingly narrow minded, it can be devastating to the positions taken by the left wing. Neither the left wing nor the right wing, of course, is able to recognize these phenomenal flaws and so each blunders repeatedly into the ditch.
