Installing Win 7 with a Full Retail "OEM" Edition Disk on a Fresh Drive ,,,

... and saving some bucks on a full clean install (as opposed to an upgrade).

Robert G posted a good article (linking another related article) on this subject on the SI Windows 7 board ...

A personal note related to the subject: In June I crashed my primary XP Pro box. First time I ever crashed XP and couldn't boot into Safe mood to recover. I was dead in the water. I had made significant changes to my primary drive (including adjusting partitions) in the prior days. I wasn't properly backed up, and didn't have a slipstreamed recovery disk.I might have been able to recover with the Recovery Console but instead purchased an XP Pro SP3 Full Retail "OEM" Edition Disk for system builders for $85 and proceeded to use the highly undocumented (by Microsoft) XP "No Reformat, Nondestructive Total Rebuild Option using Fred Langa's extremely well written tutorial ....

It worked as it was supposed to work and I was able to fully recover with all data and applications intact in relatively short order.
