Michael; All part of Gates plan to do the end run strategy. Since other browsers are de facto dead now that there is an integrated browser/OS interface he has gotten rid of Netscape. NS is still alivem but its roots have been cut and soon it will die to the end of all it's branches.
Same with Java. no-one needs it now, and with a lawsuit Gates can then take it out of his browser and use active x only. The start of this was the removal from the site.

The only hope is the justice dept, but time and the lazyness and inertia of the government will work to Gates favour.

Soon we will not need any other company for all out needs.(or so Gates thinks)The browser/os will do more and more third party things every year, and no-one will make another browser/os to ever displace Gates. His spot is assured.
The new money areas will make MS into a true monopoly. They broke up the phone cos, why not MS. We need an OS co and a browser co, and Apps co etc. I suspect the blending of OS and browser is to forestall any ruling by the Dept of Justice by making them inseparable he will at least keep them together. I suspect that there will also be action against Intel.
However the slow pace makes governments ineffective IMO.

In essence we are in a box we made for ourselves, a tight cramped structure that we call home.
