QuickLogic Announces uWatt Programmable Controller for the Intel PXA2XX Processor Line Monday May 2, 8:30 am ET
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 2005--QuickLogic Corporation (Nasdaq: QUIK - News): Ultra Low Power Programmable Controller enables rapid adoption of Miniature Hard Disk Drive (HDD) technologies into Intel® PXA2XX-based embedded systems QuickLogic HDD Solution Pack reduces risk and time to market QuickLogic Corporation (Nasdaq: QUIK - News), a pioneer of Embedded Standard Products and uWatt FPGAs, announced their uWatt Programmable Controller optimized for the Intel® PXA2XX Processor line based on Intel's XScale® technology. The QuickLogic programmable Hard Disk Drive (HDD) controller solution enables designers to expand the Intel® PXA2XX processor's native interface set to communicate with IDE-based HDDs. Applications such as Handheld Navigational Equipment, Portable Media Players and Portable Medical Systems all stand to benefit from QuickLogic's industry-leading low power technology.
The QuickLogic programmable controller has been architected specifically to ensure the highest system bandwidth at the lowest power consumption. In consumer electronic (CE) products, particularly multimedia players, processor bandwidth is a precious commodity. By embedding dedicated sector buffers, and by offloading the PXA processor from managing the overhead of IDE timing and polling operations, the QuickLogic controller enables the PXA processor to operate on other processor-intensive tasks concurrently.
In addition to the device itself, QuickLogic has developed a complete HDD Solution Pack that includes a daughtercard for the Intel® PXA270-based Processor Developer's Kit ("Mainstone" DVK) and a complete Board Support Package (BSP) for the Windows CE and Windows Mobile operating systems. A BSP for the Linux operating system will be released in the near future. The daughter card supports all IDE-compatible HDDs, including the 1.8" and 1.0" form factor miniature disk drives optimized for space-constrained and power-starved consumer products. The Solution Pack enables designers to make system architecture tradeoffs including power consumption, performance and cost, improving developers' time to market and eliminating risk.
