I'm having a blast with a 265 gal. freshwater tank I setup last month at work. I went with sand, it's less work than gravel, it stays cleaner and doesn't hold dirt. I used 40% white and 30% black and 30% green. It looks beachy and most important it doesn't show dirt. The decorations are sparse, just along the back and in front of the centered overflow box. I used lots of med/lg pieces of petrified wood, 5 or 6 med/sm pieces of Malaysian driftwood, 2 lg. and 2 small artificial but realistic Java Ferns and 2 live crinium (sp.?) bulbs. The filter is a wet dry I made out of a 40 gal breeder tank and a 20 long with the bottom knocked out filled with bio balls. For lighting I'm using six 36" Triton bulbs. Ok, now the fish. There's a 20" arrowana, four 12" True Tinfoil Barbs and four 12" Mirror Barbs all of which I grew up from a few inches, the barbs school together nicely. Other fish include an albino 4" gibicep pleco, a 6" red spot gibicep pleco, two 6" Polypterus Palmas, a 5" Red Fin prochilodus a 8" Parrot Fish and a 4" Red Texas Cichlid. We have a beautiful 8" Uaru that I also raised from a baby that I'd love to put in there but the Parrot fish is unusually agressive, I'm afraid he'd bother the Uaru. I like Uarus better but the Parrot has great color thus helping me sell a more small ones. |
