I can't get over the success of Microsoft's knee-top video player gizmo (what do thay call it again?) that lets you watch "Lord of the Rings" on the subway. Such an ingenious device was of course bound to contribute billions to the bottom line, but I doubt even billg himself would have predicted it would have become huge so quickly.

Of course the bashers want to pretend that the media center PC's duplication of the knee-top movie theater's ringing triumph is less than inevitable.

We'll show 'em. Excuse me, I've got to log on to my toaster with Passport.

...The Media Center PC is just the latest in a long list of convergence failures, including Microsoft's WebTV/MSN TV, WorldGate's Internet-driven Interactive TV service and Gateway's home theater PC.

So, I predict that the Media Center PC will be the biggest flop in the TV technology industry in 2005. Like my shopping mall colleagues, Americans will not give the Media Center a second look, or perhaps even a first one.
