Oh, were you really in doubt as to whether I personally would ever approve of terrorism as a tactic of war? The answer is no, I wouldn't approve it.
Yes, I was in doubt or I wouldn't have asked.
I remember the "better red than dead" vs. "better dead than red" conflict from my youth. I would have put you in the latter category, using every bit of breath you had and every tactic available to fight off the commies or the Martians or Islamicists or whatever aliens were the enemy du jour. Personally, I'm sure I could never go so far as to specifically target little kids, but I think that I could target marketplaces if I truly believed my cause was just and existential, if I thought the tactic could be effective, and if there was no conventional alternative. I don't fancy myself a warrior woman--I'm pretty mellow and philosophical about things. I subscribed to the "better red than dead" school at the time." I always had the impression that you were much more the warrior woman than I.
So, unlike you, I can't claim the opinion that terrorism is an absolute no-no. I disapprove of its use by the Palestinians in this case but I can't rule it out universally. I don't presume to know how most people in the world would view that but I doubt that there is a consensus that terrorism is absolutely wrong. When you're out-manned, out-gunned, and it's all on the line, I would not be surprised if most people would choose to fight dirty rather than give up. |
