|Steve Buckingham Joins KVH as Maritime Communications Technical Sales Manager|
25-year Veteran of the Marine Industry will Focus on KVH’s Expanding Line of Inmarsat Satellite Communications Products
MIDDLETOWN, RI – March 7, 2002 – KVH Industries (Nasdaq: KVHI) announced today that it has hired Mr. Steve Buckingham as the company’s new Technical Sales Manager for Maritime Communications.
“Steve brings a wealth of knowledge to KVH that will be invaluable as the company expands its Inmarsat satellite communications offerings,” commented Ian Palmer, vice president of satellite sales. “He will be drawing on his 25-year career in the marine electronics and communications industry, including his experience as a dealer and his work with Inmarsat service providers, while he supports our sales representatives and dealers nationwide to market our award-winning Tracphone product line.”
Mr. Buckingham most recently served as an Inmarsat project manager for Stratos, overseeing the launch of the new Inmarsat Fleet family of satellite communications products and services. He has also served as a product manager for other leading marine electronics manufacturers, including Seven Seas Communications and Simrad, in addition to owning his own marine electronics sales and support businesses in Washington and Alaska.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the outstanding team already in place at KVH and participating in the sales and support of KVH’s maritime communications products,” Mr. Buckingham said. “KVH Industries has established a very strong and loyal U.S. dealer distribution network, thanks to the company’s excellent products and superior dealer support. The recent addition of Thrane & Thrane products, as well as new KVH-branded Inmarsat systems, to the KVH product line require a renewed focus on technical sales support to ensure that our dealers and, as a result, our customers, understand the exciting array of Inmarsat communications solutions that KVH offers. I’m very excited to be a part of this effort.”
On February 13, 2002, KVH announced that it had been named the primary U.S. distributor of marine satellite communications products for Thrane & Thrane, one of the leading manufacturers of Inmarsat global satellite communication systems. KVH and the Denmark-based Thrane & Thrane will also work together to introduce new products geared toward supporting high-speed, two-way data communications in the U.S. maritime market. The first of these KVH-branded products – the Tracphone F77 and the eTrac – were introduced at the Miami International Boat Show on February 14, 2002.
The KVH Tracphone F77 is fully compatible with Inmarsat's new Fleet service, which provides high-quality voice connections as well as data connections at speeds as fast as 64 kilobits per second (Kbps). The compact KVH eTrac offers mariners a combination of global e-mail access (via the new Inmarsat mini-C system) and GPS position reporting, creating a great standalone communications center for leisure craft and an invaluable business tool for any commercial vessel.
Inmarsat offers global mobile satellite communications services to maritime, land-mobile, aeronautical, and other users. Starting with a user base of 900 ships in the early 1980s, it now supports links for phone, fax, and data communications at up to 64 Kbps to more than 210,000 ship, vehicle, aircraft, and portable terminals.
KVH Industries, Inc., is a leading provider of innovative high-bandwidth communications products.
