MEDIA / CANADIAN OCCIDENTAL PETROLEUM MAKES NEW FIND AT YEMEN MASILA FIELD
July 3, 1997 SANAA, July 3 (Reuter) - Canadian Occidental Petroleum Ltd (CanOxy) has discovered a new field at its Masila concession in Yemen, a Yemeni official said on Thursday. "(CanOxy) has discovered a new oil field recently... producing about 12,000 barrels per day (bpd)," Rasheed Baraba, Yemen's deputy minister of oil told Reuters. An official inauguration of the field would take place shortly, Baraba added, without giving details. Canadian Occidental currently operates the Masila field, which pumps more than 185,000 bpd of non-OPEC Yemen's 385,000 bpd output. Yemen aims to lift output to 420,000 bpd by 1998. U.S. Hunt Oil in partnership with Exxon Corp operates the 170,000 bpd Marib field in Yemen. |
