Peet's Coffee & Tea, Inc. is a specialty coffee roaster and marketer of branded fresh roasted whole bean coffee sold under strict freshness standards through multiple channels of distribution. The Company purchases Arabica beans, deep roasts them for full flavor using an artisan process and ships them within 24 hours of roasting to ensure freshness. The Company sells its fresh roasted coffee, hand selected tea and related items in several distribution channels, including specialty grocery and gourmet food stores, online and mail order, office and restaurant accounts and 57 Company-owned stores in four states. Peet's primary business is the sale of fresh roasted whole bean coffee. In 1999, approximately 60% of its total revenue was generated from the sale of whole bean coffee and related items and approximately 40% of its total revenue was generated from the sale of prepared beverages and pastry items.
