Albania is Nokia's 100th GSM System Customer

Nokia To Supply Network Expansion For AMC In Albania - Marking Nokia's 100th GSM System Customer

Nokia and AMC (Albanian Mobile Communications) have agreed on the expansion of a GSM network in Albania, including core and radio network systems. The deal marks a milestone, as AMC becomes the 100th GSM network operator customer for Nokia.

A full range of network infrastructure will be provided, including mobile switching centres and Nokia high capacity base stations. A range of professional services will also be supplied, as well as the Nokia Network Management System. Deliveries have already begun and the initial phase of the network expansion will be in operation by December 15th this year.

AMC has been running a GSM 900 network since 1996. Earlier this year Greek operator Cosmote acquired 85% of AMC.

``The integration of Nokia's solutions into our network will enable us to continue providing the same high-quality coverage across the entire country,'' said Mr. Evangelos Martigopoulos, Managing Director, Cosmote. ``We are pleased to be working closely with Nokia to ensure a fast roll-out, which ultimately will mean improved service for our rapidly growing subscriber
base.''

Goran Ackerot, Managing Director, Nokia Networks, Greece, says; ``As an industry pace-setter in mobile networks, we are delighted to announce our co-operation with AMC, which in fact marks our 100th GSM network customer. This is a tremendous milestone for us, and underlines the success of Nokia's reliable, field-proven and future-proof solutions.''

Nokia offers total GSM systems, with everything from digital mobile phones to transmission and switching as well as extensive services and network management solutions for building, efficiently operating and developing these networks. The number of operators to which Nokia supplies GSM technology is now 100 operators in 45 countries. Nokia ranks as the world's largest supplier of GSM 1800 networks and one of the two largest in GSM 900.
