Company Press Release

Watkins-Johnson and Sprint Sign Multi-Year Master
Purchase Agreement for Repeaters for Wireless Network

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 9, 1999-- Watkins-Johnson Company (NYSE: WJ - news), a high technology company
specializing in wireless communication equipment, announced today that its Wireless Products Group (WPG) and Sprint have signed a
multi-year Master Purchase Agreement for Watkins-Johnson repeaters to be used in the Sprint PCS all-digital nationwide network. The
agreement applies to orders for repeaters and associated equipment and authorizes similar transactions with Sprint PCS Affiliates.

WJ ''over-the-air'' repeaters for PCS applications are designed to supplement existing PCS networks by extending cell size and improving
coverage for air interfaces. Easily installed, indoor repeaters provide quick and easy coverage (up to 1 million square feet) to shopping
malls, airports, multistory office buildings, and other indoor locations where PCS signals are obstructed. Higher power, outdoor repeaters
offer an exceptionally efficient and economical way to extend cell footprints and fill coverage gaps. They incorporate proprietary
Watkins-Johnson radio frequency (RF) technology to provide a channel-selective, high-dynamic-range, high-power solution to cell extension
requirements.

Watkins-Johnson Company is a recognized leader in the field of RF communication electronics. WPG provides GaAs components,
integrated assemblies and repeaters for use in a variety of system and terminal applications for cellular, PCS, cable and fiber optic
communications. The group is dedicated, through research and development, to continue its expansion by meeting global demand for
advanced RF communication products. For more information, visit wj.com.
