JAKKS Pacific, Inc. Ranked as 8th Largest Traditional Toy Company According to July TRSTS Data

MALIBU, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 1, 1999--JAKKS Pacific Inc. (Nasdaq/NM:JAKK - news) today announced that according to July TRSTS sales data from the NPD Group Inc., the company ranked as the 8th largest traditional toy company in the United States.

During the same period last year, the company placed 14th in the monthly TRSTS ranking while, as recently as March 1998, its ranking was 24th.

NPD's TRSTS Service tracks market trends through point-of-sale information collected from a panel of U.S. retailers. TRSTS data is gathered weekly and monitors sell-through retail sales nationwide.

Driving JAKKS Pacific's standing were continued strong sales across its product lines, including World Wrestling Federation® (WWF) male action figures and accessories; Road Champs® and Remco® die-cast and collectible vehicles; and Child Guidance® preschool and infant toys.

Based on TRSTS unit sales data, the company's WWF line captured 11.4 percent of the entire action figure category. Under its Road Champs and Remco brands, the company recently introduced more than 60 new items, while sales of its Child Guidance line continue to accelerate.

In addition, the company's newest line of action figure products, role-play accessories, ranked number two in its category in July, far outpacing the next-most popular manufacturer. JAKKS Pacific's action figure role-play products enjoyed a 22.8% total unit market share.

''In 16 months, we've jumped from 24th to 8th place,'' said Stephen Berman, co-founder and president of JAKKS Pacific. ''There's no sign of a slowdown with our WWF wrestling figures and accessories, which continue to capture the imagination of fans, while our 'wheels' and preschool lines are maintaining their high-performance levels.''

This month, JAKKS Pacific was ranked No. 9 on the new Fortune 100 Fastest-Growing Companies List and, in July, the company was added to the Russell 2000® Index.

JAKKS Pacific and its affiliates develop, manufacture and market toys and related products for children, including action figures featuring characters from the World Wrestling Federation®, die-cast collectible and toy vehicles under the Road Champs® and Remco® brand names, Child Guidance® preschool toys and a line of dolls and accessories.
