Return to Technical analysis for shorts & longs

If you accept the twin thesis that shorts are easier to identify than longs and that good technical analysis is a vital part of a successful short or put, then this thread is for you.

The months of June and July 1996 have made many of us aware that markets not only go up...

Stocks go down ultimately for fundamental reasons. But these reasons are often foreshadowed by technical indications. Quick run-ups, momentum plays, hyped up stocks and entire sectors often set-up disasters, and technical analysis can show the writing on the wall... well before the wall is even visible.

Several SI participants who have exchanged ideas, perhaps inappropriately, on other threads are looking for exchanges here on the technical/charting elements that help predict disasters about to happen. Anyone who is interested in learning about and contributing to an understanding of technical analysis is welcomed. We encourage new ideas for short positions as well as contrarian ideas -- as long as they focus on the announced topic.

Welcome!
